Reasons to Invest in a Kindle

Reasons to Invest in a Kindle

If you have found yourself struggling between buying a Kindle or continuing to read physical books, I was once just like you.

I tried so hard to stay away, but with every video I would see online, my resolve would weaken.

I caved four months ago and it has been one of my greatest investments. It completely changed the reading game.

Now, I’m not going to tell you that you need to buy a Kindle or you aren’t a “real reader”. However, I will provide some insight that might help make this decision a little easier for you.

Why I Got a Kindle

As I said, I stood against buying a Kindle for so long. The price was too much for me to commit to, and the feel of a real book could never beat that of an e-reader.

Also, I loved collecting books too much. I still love collecting books.

Getting one seemed to be impractical and now I can’t imagine life without it. Of course, I am dramatizing it but you get my point.

Not only am I reading more but I am reading faster. I can’t forget to mention that my Kindle is saving me money too. That among other things has made this an amazing addition to my reading.

Reasons to Buy a Kindle

1. Save Money

In March alone, I read 4 books on my Kindle and only paid $12 for them thanks to Kindle Unlimited. Estimating that each book is about $15 USD, that means there is almost an extra $50 in my bank account,

However, even if you don’t purchase Kindle Unlimited, the books are always cheaper on a Kindle than they would be if you purchased a hard copy.

If you aren’t particular about collecting your books, this would be a great way to save money without reading less.

2. Read More

The adjustable font size makes it especially easy to read faster.

I no longer have to strain my eyes to read like I sometimes would with physical books because my Kindle allows me to increase the size of the words.

3. Perfect for Traveling

Whether you’re heading to the next room, to class, or to another country, the compact size of the Kindle is amazing. I don’t have to worry about carrying a thick book when I can just throw the device into my bag without adding weight.

And, if you like to read multiple books at once, this is great for keeping everything on you. You don’t have to carry multiple books in your bag and instead only need to have your Kindle.

4. Read Anything at Anytime

A Kindle allows you to instantaneously download any book at any time. You don’t have to worry about waiting until the next time you can go to the library or the bookstore anymore.

If you just finished one book, you can start another in just a minute.

Of course, some things aren’t ideal if you are considering a Kindle. Here are 3 reasons I held off on buying one for so long that you may want to think twice about.

Reasons to Not Buy a Kindle

1. The Price

I purchased a Kindle paperwhite and paid $152 for it. Quite a hefty number, but I plan to have it for as long as it works which makes the investment worth it to me.

However, if you don’t read often then I don’t recommend the Kindle unless you get it discounted or second-hand at a cheaper price.

2. Not Ideal For Book Discussions

There are annotating features which is wonderful, but locating certain pages can be a pain.

Of course, for books such as these, you can just buy or borrow a hard copy. But, if these are the only times you read, then I don’t think a Kindle would be the best choice for you.

3. Not For Book Collectors

This ties in with the first con, but if you prefer collecting your books, then this likely isn’t worth it.

If you’re going to read the book on your Kindle and then buy the hard copy, you’d only spend more. I highly suggest holding off on purchasing one unless you have the money to spend.

Final Thoughts

There are many more reasons to either buy or not buy a Kindle, but as a relatively new user myself, these are the things I have found to be most important to consider.

If you have the money to spend, I would say to just go for the Kindle because one day it will come into use. However, if you are more like me and the rest of the general population, then you might want to consider these things.

I also suggest that if you are going to buy a Kindle first-hand to get it on sale or during a big discount event such as Prime Day or Black Friday.

While a Kindle has been great for me, it isn’t for everyone. Regardless of whether you have one or not doesn’t make you any more or less a reader so just keep reading and you’ll be fine.

Thanks for Reading!
